WHY WE DO

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTh) was established in July 1973. It was named "Democritus" in honor of the ancient Greek philosopher Democritus, who hailed from the town of Abdera (prefecture of Xanthi) in Thrace. DUTh's quality of teaching and research level, has secured a place among the best Greek Universities. The University plays an important role in strengthening national and cultural identity of the region of Thrace and contributes to the high level of education in Greece. This is our contribution to our community, our peers and a personal academic and professional growth effort.

HOW WE DO

We have managed to establish an active core through respectful communication and mutual passion. We have organised a respected Chapter, with strong international presence and distinction. We continue to pursue mutual professional, yet friendly, relationships with our peers abroad and shake the status quo initiating innovative and long-sighted extrovert activities.

Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering
(DEECE)

The Department began its operation in 1974. The University is currently operating seven Faculties and eighteen Departments in four cities of Thrace. The Department's Sections Sectors are constituted as the following: Electrical Energy Systems Sector, Electronics and Information Technology Systems Sector, Telecommunications and Space Sector, Software and Application Development Sector and Physics and Applied Mathematics Sector.

IEEE Industry Applications Society
(IAS)

If your engineering interests are the needs of the industrial or commercial sector, the Industry Applications Society (IAS) will be a valuable professional connection. One of the largest special interest societies within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IAS focuses specifically on the unique needs of industry and commerce. IAS is a source of professional power to more than 13,000 worldwide members and its network of 270+ chapters globally.
