Nowadays, technology is developing more and more rapidly. This results in a great variety of information that an engineer should gather, where he wants to be creative, competitive and keep himself thoroughly informed. The ultimate weapons that an engineer should own are communication and interaction with his peers.
Realizing how important is the co-operation between the chapters we are about to organize the second R8 Mediterranean Student Branch Chapter Workshop. This workshop will establish a strong network between active student groups, allowing them to strengthen their relations. This interaction will also help to motivate young students become active as volunteers.
The very successful first R8 Mediterranean Student Branch Chapter Workshop held in Rome, Italy on December 14-15 2013 paved the way for an improved co-operation between student chapters and the perpetuation of this meeting.

The workshop will be held at the Central Amphitheater of Xanthi's Polytechnic School (PROKAT).
Hotel Xanthippion is located in the center of Xanthi, only 5 minutes from the Xanthi's Central Square and 7 minutes from the Old Town of Xanthi.

A single journey ticket costs 2.00 EUR and it could be purchased by automatic machines inside each bus. The journey time is approximately 50 minutes depending on the traffic.

Please make sure to check the schedule before your trip as it might change without notification. A ticket for Xanthi costs approximately 20 EUR and it could be purchased at the Xanthi counter. In DUTH operate a total of thirty-two (32) student groups. Twenty (20) of them are undergraduates student groups for each Department, and seven (7) are Postgraduate Students Groups. There are two (2) clubs of intern students in Komotini and Xanthi, and there are Alumni Clubs for almost every Department. Finally, there are three (3) Cultural Clubs: Youth Community in Komotini, Gefira in Xanthi, and0 Academic Citizens Club, in Alexandroupoli.
DUTh SB IAS Chapter is one of the most active IAS Chapters worldwide with various awards over the years.
Xanthi has one of the best preserved old cities in the country, with over 1,200 classic buildings classified as landmarks. The buildings have been standing since 1830 turning the old town of Xanthi into an open museum, filled with glory untouched through the years. Witnesses of this long living coexistence are the religious monuments of the region such as churches, monasteries and mosques. All architectural creations in Xanthi blend smoothly together, sharing the same forgotten values of traditional architecture.
Since 1991, Xanthi’s Old Town Festival takes place at the beginning of autumn. Each year it offers a week of unforgettable moments with concerts, theatrical plays, art and photography exhibitions, various fairs. Stands set in the paved streets of Old Town by the various cultural associations of Xanthi offer plenty of food and endless fun to the visitors.
Xanthi has a significant position not only geographically but also as a center of development of special services, research pole and innovation, exploiting the existence of the Polytechnic School of Democritus University of Thrace. Democritus University of Thrace was established in July 1973. It is based in Komotini and has campuses in the Thracian cities of Xanthi, Alexandroupoli and Orestiada and named in honor of the great ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Democritus who lived near Xanthi, in the city of Avdira.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, that was the second department founded in Xanthi, has a total of 45 members of the Teaching and Research Staff at various levels and consists of five Sectors: the Sector of Energy Systems, the Sector of Electronics and Computer Systems Technology, the Sector of Telecommunications and Space, the Sector of Software and Application Development and the Sector of Physics and Applied Mathematics.
